Cybersecurity Roundtable Report Available

December 4, 2019

Cybersecurity concerns represent a significant barrier for many commercial building owners who are considering the addition of connected smart building technologies to improve their buildings’ energy performance. To gain insight on how the building  community approaches cybersecurity, Berkeley Lab and Pacific Northwest National Lab organized a one-day workshop that was attended by 21 building owners, operators and other stakeholders.

The focus of the day was on cybersecurity practices and concerns for Operational Technology (OT) staff rather than Information Technology (IT) where cyber issues are typically discussed. The Roundtable centered on connected energy efficient OT, such as energy management and information systems (EMIS), advanced connected controls, and “Internet of Things” (IoT) devices.

The summary report describes the themes, best practices and outstanding needs still to be understood by the building owner community.
